CSPC receives P24.9M from CHED for Campus BayanihanNET Project
The Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC) through a proposal of its College of Computer Studies (CCS) received a P24.9M budget from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to upgrade to the College’s ICT infrastructure, Learning Management System (LMS), and computer connectivity assistance for “Smart Campuses Development” to meet the ICT demands in both main and Buhi campuses. According to its proponents, the should address the demands of online instruction in the face of the “new normal” and to bridge the gap of the “digital divide” between students who are and aren’t capable of securing personal computers.
Titled CSPC BayanihaNET, the project is composed of three components designed to resolve the College’s network connectivity and gadget usage demands; a strategy responsive to the College’s Smart Campus initiative.
Its first component is directed at the enhancement of the College’s existing ICT infrastructure in its main campus to meet the information technology demands of the students and faculty. According to the proposal this will be achieved by boosting the current internet speed to an additional 1GBps, the expansion of the network backbone by laying additional fiber lines, and procurement of equipment to provide wireless internet connectivity anywhere in the campus. Also the upgraded network will be designed to accommodate future integrations such as IP telephony, security monitoring and a public address.
The second component is directed at the College’s LMS which will be addressed by the BayanihaNET’s software core group. Additional features will be added to enrich the existing LMS for an enhanced quality experience and to meet the projected demands of increased enrolment in the coming school semesters.
The provision of additional computer sets, 113 personal computers in total, to both Nabua and Buhi campuses is the third component of the project which is in anticipation of the coming face-to-face classes in the months to come. A BayanihaNET Computer Center will be set up at the main campus for common use of students. This component also includes improvements in the internet connection and provision of network access to all classrooms in both campuses.
Further, the project proponents plan to address its impact and sustainability on the establishment of excellence and equity of access across gender and economic status of students and faculty.
The Project Team is headed by CSPC President Dr. Charlito P. Cadag as Project Manager with Dr. Amado Oliva, Jr. as Project Supervisor and Engr. Rizza T. Loquias as Project Leader. For the Campus Area
